Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp high-quality matcha powder
  • 2 ounces hot water not boiling, about 175°F or 80°C
  • 1 cup milk dairy or plant-based, such as almond, soy, or oat milk
  • 1-2 tsp honey or sweetener of your choice optional
  • A small whisk or a traditional bamboo matcha whisk chasen

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Matcha: Sift the matcha powder into a small bowl to remove any clumps.
  • Add the hot water to the matcha powder.
  • Whisk the matcha and hot water together using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small regular whisk. Whisk in a zigzag motion until the matcha is fully dissolved and a frothy layer forms on top.
  • Steam the Milk: In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is hot but not boiling. If you have a milk frother, you can use it to steam and froth the milk.
  • If using a milk frother, froth the milk until it has a nice layer of foam.
  • Combine the Matcha and Milk: Pour the whisked matcha into a mug.
  • Add honey or your preferred sweetener to the matcha, if using, and stir to combine.
  • Pour the steamed milk over the matcha, holding back the foam with a spoon.
  • Spoon the foam on top of the latte.
