Ingredients
  

  • 10-12 fresh asparagus spears trimmed
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry thawed
  • 100 g cream cheese optional: with herbs for added flavor
  • 2 tbsp melted butter or olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • Fresh herbs such as dill or parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

Instructions
 

  • Preheat Oven and Prepare Asparagus: Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  • Wash the asparagus spears and trim the tough ends. If the spears are very thick, you might want to blanch them in boiling water for 1-2 minutes to start the cooking process. Then, drain and pat them dry.
  • Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet into a rectangle about 3mm thick. Cut the pastry into strips about 2-3 cm wide.
  • Assemble: If using, spread a thin layer of cream cheese along each strip of puff pastry.
  • Place an asparagus spear on one end of a pastry strip. Roll the pastry around the asparagus, slightly overlapping the dough as you wrap. Brush the tip of the pastry with a little water to seal the edge if needed.
  • Place the wrapped spears seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Leave some space between each for even cooking.
  • Seasoning: Brush each wrapped asparagus spear with melted butter or olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. For a golden finish, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if using.
  • Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  • Serve: Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes.
